Jamie Hood

International Cornet Soloist

Dr. Jamie Hood enjoys a multi-faceted career as an educator, performer and conductor. Born in Scotland, Jamie began cornet lessons with his father James Hood at the age of four and after a couple of years started playing in the Young People’s Band of Kilbirnie Salvation Army. After moving to France at fourteen, Jamie continued his education studying with Marc Ullirch (solo trumpet Basel Symphony Orchestra), Philippe Litzler (Solo Trumpet Tonhalle Orchestra) and James Gourlay (International Tuba Soloist).

Jamie then returned to Scotland to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Nigel Boddice (Trumpet) and Roger Webster (Cornet). After a period of 2 years he moved back to Alsace and studied with the American trumpet teacher and composer Anthony Plog at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany as well as French trumpet legend Pierre Thibaud in Paris.

In 2011 Jamie started to work closely with American brass pedagogue and tuba player David Fedderly.

As a freelance orchestral trumpet player Jamie has worked with l’Orchestre de Chambre de Cannes in France, The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in Monte Carlo, The Houston Grand Opera in Texas and The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist and Besson Cornet Artist Jamie has given recitals and Master Classes in France, Switzerland and in the USA.

As a conductor and clinician Jamie has worked with brass bands and wind bands in Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has also been an adjudicator at the Swiss National Brass Soloist Competition and The North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) Contest.

From 2006-2018 Jamie was a Divisional Music Director with The Salvation Army in the USA. In this capacity Jamie was responsible for the music and arts programs for the Salvation Army in North and South Carolina and Oregon and Southern Idaho.

Jamie is currently the trumpet professor at the Arts Academy in Huningue France and the Brass Academy in Zurich, Switzerland. He is also the Music Director of Celebration Brass and Fanfare l’Avenir de Barberêche-Courtepin in Switzerland.

Dr. Hood earned In 2020 Jamie earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts and in 2016 his Master of Music at the University of Salford in the United Kingdom.
