Hannah Plumridge

Repiano Cornet – The Cory Band

Hannah began learning the cornet aged 7 and joined her local town band in Brixham where she quickly progressed to the position of Principal Cornet. As an early teenager she played in many bands in the south west area but also some further afield (including the Grimethorpe Besson Youth Band).

Hannah’s first taste of playing ‘top man’ in a championship section band came at the age of sixteen when she joined The Mount Charles Band.  During these formative years Hannah also played solo cornet with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and enjoyed many courses with numerous leading conductors and soloists.

It was at a CYBB course that Hannah was noticed by the professional conductor, Philip Harper, and was later invited to join the Cory Band on 2nd cornet.

Hannah accepted the invitation to join Cory just before she commenced her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015. She spent two years on 2nd cornet, after which she was promoted to Solo Cornet for a year before moving onto Repiano Cornet in 2018. During her time at Cory Hannah has won every major brass band competition and has contributed to many successful contests, concerts and international tours (including the band’s two ‘Grand Slam’ years). Alongside
this she also deputises on Principal Cornet for Cory whenever required.

Outside of band Hannah also had a successful playing career whilst she studied for her degree. She was a prominent member of the brass department and led many of the college ensembles.

Alongside this she won the Philip Jones brass ensemble prize on three occasions, The McGrenery chamber prize and also the Linda Mowat Solo competition.

Additionally, in 2016 she obtained the Harry Mortimer Memorial Trust award and in February 2019 Hannah competed in a trumpet competition held at the Royal Academy of music in London where she was awarded the Yamaha Music Foundation of Eunder Tom Hutchinson, Hannah was invited over to New Zealand as guest Principal Cornet to perform in the National Brass Band Championships and also has been a tutor for the National Youth Brass Band of Switzerland. She still continues to play in Cory and also plays the trumpet as a function musician throughout the UK, with desire to inspire young brass musicians in Wales and England.
